Nostrathomas
My family and I stopped in Stuttgart in 2013...mostly to check out the Porsche and the Mercedes museums. Somewhere along the way I copied over all the photos I took during that stretch of the trip....or so I thought. This weekend, 2 years late, I stumbled upon a folder full of photos that I had copied onto a portable HD. It was the 50th anniversary of the 911 exhibit, so it was almost all 911's in the entire building (which was good in some ways, but unfortunately in others as I'm a big fan of a lot of other Porsche models as well). High res versions are available if you click the link (as well as shots from the equally impressive Mercedes Museum): In Zuffenhousen, random Carrera GT's pass by like it's nothing. Even the tickets where pretty neat. dat ass. dat ass, part II One of the neater parts of the museum is being able to see into the workshop, where you see mechanics working on cars. 9Elfer
Thanks Thomas, very nice pictures! I am planning a trip to Europe this fall and may finally be able to take in the museum. Marc Quote Link to comment
Perci
A far cry from the warehouse bay that was the museum when I was there in 1985. Quote Perci PCA DE Instructor 2014 Cayman S 2000 Boxster S 2000 Carrera 2010 Panamera 4S 1989 928GT Link to comment
Nostrathomas
Thanks guys. It's definitely a pretty spectacular structure, something like 100 Million euros to build (I guess now you know were your $1,200 painted air vents are going towards, ha). The Mercedes one is perhaps even nicer. Overall I definitely recommend stopping by Stuttgart if you're in that region of Germany. The Black Forest nearby is a pretty great place to drive through...even in a rented Skoda Fabia it was fun. Quote 1990 964 C2 - Guards Red 2007 Cayman - Guards Red (former) Link to comment
calgary7er
A far cry from the warehouse bay that was the museum when I was there in 1985. Wow, I was there in 1985 as well! We toured the Mercedes factory at Sindelfingen in the morning then went to Zuffenhausen in the afternoon. The differences then were incredible. Mercedes was very automated and pristine, while Porsche showed like they were almost hand built. The museum at Porsche was truly like a little warehouse! Planning on a two week tour through Germany next summer and it will be fun to see the differences. Quote Link to comment
Perci
Small world. We also did the Benz museum, then found our way to Zuffenhausen based on 3 lines in the Michelin Green Guide. We were about to give up looking for it when I asked the attendant while paying at the gas station if he could help, and he told me to go straight down the road 200m more. We tried to sneak onto a factory tour, but received a polite 'nein'. Quote Perci PCA DE Instructor 2014 Cayman S 2000 Boxster S 2000 Carrera 2010 Panamera 4S 1989 928GT Link to comment
