Paul
Requesting help from all those running 17" wheels. I am currently looking at replacing my tires and have an issue with the sizing on the front. Previous owner installed 205-50-17's on the front and 255-40-17's on the rear. The question I have then is should I replace the fronts with the same size or go 205-45-17's? It was always my understanding that the fronts should be 45's, at least that was what i had on my previous cars. Let me know what you are running on the front. Is there really any difference between 50 and 45? The reason I would switch to 45 is to be able to lower the front a bit. Any advice on tires would also be great. Currently thinking of Bridgestone Potenza RE-11. Thanks, Paul Quote ‘12 Targa 4S - Amythist metallic '81 SC Targa - sold but not forgotten Link to comment
Alex
Paul, I've got the 50's on my 17" front wheels on the 911SC, but have never tried the 45's. The ride is rough enough with the 50's....I would think that the 45's might be worse?!? I've also got the Potenza's on my 997 C4S and, though I don't have a comparison as I've only had the car for less than 2 years, they are a great tire!.....held on like Super Glue on the DE track day in April, even on 5C degree pavement! That's my 2C worth! Alex Quote Alex 1980 911SC Targa "turbo" - Light Blue Metallic 2007 997TT Coupe - black/black and black - now wrapped Gloss Red Metallic Link to comment
Perci
205/50-17 are correct for the 25.2" tire diameter for earlier Porsche, but it is also dependent on the brand of tire. (Different company's tires of the same size can vary in width and height). Also, there is your own preference. I run 225/45-17s on the front of my Boxster.
