Season Opener Drive - Edgar Farms and Innisfail

Events Calendar

Event details

Hip hip hooray! The summer driving season is finally upon us! To kick off the 2022 driving season, join us for a fun and informative day, with an beautiful drive north and west of Calgary to visit and have an exclusive tour of Edgar Farms, a working farm that specializes in asparagus and other crops. This is a family-friendly tour and lunch, so bring the kids or grandkids.

Our route will include a 20 minute mid-morning stop at Red Lodge Provincial Park to stretch our legs. At the farm, depending on weather, we will have a tour on a large covered wagon behind a tractor to see the asparagus fields and other aspects of the farm, and have the opportunity to purchase asparagus, and other produce and goods at the farm store.

Edgar Farms was founded in 1907 and has remained in the same family since then. It is the largest grower of asparagus in Alberta. The growing season is mid-May until the end of June, so we will be able to see the crop growing and being picked and likely have the opportunity to pick a few spears ourselves.

Following the farm tour, we will stop in Innisfail at Field & Forge Brewing Co. for lunch.

Driving times are approximately 1 hr 20 minutes to Red Lodge PP, and then 15 minutes to the farm. We expect to spend approximately two hours at the farm and then will drive 10 minutes to lunch, anticipating arriving for lunch at 12:45 - 1:00.

Note: Edgar Farms is putting this tour on exclusively for WRR and are asking for a $5.00 per person fee to cover their costs. Please bring exact change to speed up the process.

Note: If you anticipate purchasing produce, bring a cooler or cold bag with a cold pack to keep it fresh until you get home.

Jack and Nancy, tour and lunch - are we making a reservation on F&F's dog-friendly patio? If so, we'll bring the dogs.

Currently we have a reservation in the private room upstairs, as we are expecting a fairly large group. We felt that we would be too big a group and would swamp their patio.

A couple of others have asked about bringing dogs. Edgar Farms is fine with people bringing dogs but they must be on leash at the farm, and be cleaned up after, if needed.

Rob for farm tour and lunch - I might have a plus 1 depending on if my son drags his butt out of bed.  haha

New member here. Would really like to take drive, tour and possibly lunch.  Any chance me, my wife and two kids can be included for tomorrows drive?
