Update with drive details:

Meeting location:  Safeway parking lot at Westhills (note: there is a Starbucks in the Safeway for your coffee fix!)

Meeting Time: 8:30 am

Departure Time: 9:00 am

Route map: Posted in the Driving Routes subforum

Note that we are planning to arrive on the early side as the parking lot area can fill up quickly early in the day.  We'll seize whatever space we have available for the size of our group and walk over to the picnic tables and other day-use facilities.

In the event the Upper K-Lakes parking lot is unable to accommodate our group size, we will retreat 3km back up the road to the parking lot at the Boulton Creek Campground Store.

For your return trip home at the conclusion of your picnic lunch, you have the option of taking the south route through the Highwood pass and back up through the western half of Diamond Valley.

We could really use a volunteer to continue on ahead (while the group stops at the Barrier Lake Info Centre) to scout out the parking lot situation and then direct us when the group reaches the lot entrance.  There are 2 smaller lots located right along the lake that would be awesome but likely to fill up early in the morning.  Failing that, picking out the best place in the big lot for our group size will greatly help the group get parked efficiently and orderly upon arrival.  Please send me a PM if you're willing and able to assist with this on the trip.  Thanks!

Can't make it to the drive, but will try to join up with the gang at the lake for a picnic.  BTW, there's a really cool little 1km hike to a suspension bridge nearby, but it requires about 5km of driving on gravel.

I will join the group at the intersection of Hwy 1 and Hwy 40. There is turnout ~1 km on Hwy 40 south of the intersection on the southbound lane and I will join the group from there.

Darlene and I will make our final confirmation on attending Saturday morning.  We volunteered to lead group 2, as required, but our attendance will be determined by the air quality in the area.  If it remains poor air quality we will not attend.  Not much fun having a drive and picnic in the midst of a cloud of smoke.

We have had a change in plans. Laureen and I will join the group at the start point, Westhills Safeway Parking lot. From what I can tell from the FireSmoke.ca forecast it might be a bit smoky but maybe not too bad. Fingers crossed!!

Weather and wildfire smoke forecasts look good. Should be a fun drive and picnic!
