patty007 Posted September 30, 2025 Posted September 30, 2025 I got a set of winter wheels & tires for my Boxster - not planning to drive it every day, but I will on the nicer dry days. My question is on the storage of the summer tires & wheels (Pirelli PZero PZ4). I see a lot of stuff online about the tires not being intended to be serviced, stored nor driven in near-freezing temperatures. From Tire Rack and others. I intend to store them in my insulated & heated garage, but cold waves will come in when I open the garage doors. I set the temp at ~ +5C. Should I cover them? Bring them inside (not sure my wife would appreciate that option)? Am I overthinking this? If it makes any difference, I store them on a vertical tire rack that has spacers, so they are not touching each other. (like this: https://www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/certified-aluminum-tire-stand-with-wheels-275-lb-capacity-0090073p.html?rq=tire+storage) I'm thinking as long as they are not driven on or otherwise "stressed" (mounted, dropped, etc.) in cold weather they should be ok? Thoughts – comments? Thanks! Patrick Quote
herve_g Posted September 30, 2025 Posted September 30, 2025 I'd say you're overthinking a bit. Clean them, bag them, keep them in your garage. Nothing more needed. Quote 2015 Cayman GTS
Paul Posted October 2, 2025 Posted October 2, 2025 Store them in the dining room Patrick, ask Brodie how 😂. Garage will be fine, try to get them off the floor though.. Quote
turbokraut Posted October 2, 2025 Posted October 2, 2025 5 degC might be a few degrees cooler than ideal, but at the end of the day, if these summer tires will be burned off within 3-5 years, long-term damage doesn't get a chance to be a thing. Quote
Danielle Posted October 12, 2025 Posted October 12, 2025 Stacking them in your laundry room also works very well - it's easy access to the garage when spring comes. You'll be able to stack 2 sets vertically while taking up minimal floor space. Sure it looks weird at first, but you'll get used to it real quick. Just put a board on top because if you put your bottle of laundry soap up there and forget the tires are open, it's annoying to disassemble the stack to retrieve the bottle from the floor. You would think I'm joking here... but nope, 100% serious 🙄 Quote
