Thoughts on windshield protection and prepaid maintenance plans

Hi. I'm getting a new Macan and was offered a number of plans including prepaid windshield repair/replacement plans and scheduled maintenance plans. I plan on keeping the car for a while so I'm not worried about losing the benefits if I sold it before the terms are up. I'll also check on what my insurance covers in terms of glass replacement.

Has anyone bought either of these plans and what are your thoughts?

I have purchased the replacement plan on a couple of vehicles. It’s not inexpensive but replacement windshields for P-Cars can be outrageous. I know two members who have purchased aftermarket protection film designed specifically for windshields . It’s come a long way in optical purity and scratch resistance and is about 1/6th the price of my option. While it’s not perfect, I think that’s the route. I would take in the future.

It might not be helpful for you right now but we are getting a new windshield w/protection film installed on our Cayenne next week.  We had 8 chips repaired this past winter/spring but then one hit in July that was too deep and just destroyed the windshield - new OEM spec replacement is $3500 ($4000 w/film).

It varies between models though, so it's worth checking the real cost for you.

I replaced the windshield of my Cayman 3 months ago, and it was only 1200$ all in at the dealership 🤯

Herve did they make a mistake? 😶I got a quote for mine and the replacement plan was less than the quote so I opted for the replacement plan. 

I don't personally go with prepaid maintenance. Anything easy enough to DIY I'll take care of (save receipts, pics, and keep an updated service document). Anything else I go to Alpine or Riegel for.

Nope, it wasn't a mistake. In fact slightly less than what they quoted me.
