My "Little" Porsche Collection....

calgary7er

Recommended Posts

I have been collecting scale models of European cars for many years, and currently have over 300 on display in my "Man Cave". Most are in the popular scale of 1:18 though I have been adding some of the larger 1:12 scale when they come available. Most of my models are centered around Porsche, but I have further emphasis towards BMW, Mercedes, Ferrari, Lamborghini as well as other European marques. I thought I might share the Porsche side of the collection with my fellow Porsche enthusiasts.

Here are reference photos to give members and idea of the different scales (with the key to my 997 as size reference).

I will try to separate each decade in individual posts as I'm unsure on how many photos per post are allowed on this site. I hope you enjoy, and please don't knock me for my atrocious photographic ability!

Thank you for your question regarding the 924 models. Upon further research, both of the Minichamps models are based on European 1985 models. The Polizei version is from the Düsseldorf Autobahn in 1985. I will edit my original post regarding them.

The other 924 that I have in my collection is a version of the incredibly rare 924 Carrera GT that was introduced in 1980. It introduced to the world the wide front fenders that the future 944 would incorporate, but it's rear fenders were better integrated when the 944 came out.

I'm sure that Mike would agree that we would love to see more 944 models available as scale models, but currently the options are rather limited.

If I have any other information incorrectly represented, please let me know and I will gladly adjust my listing. You are all a very knowledgable base of knowledge, and I appreciate your insight.

Hi guys!

What a fantastic collection....some great colour choices.

This 924 collection is outstanding they are all from the 924 series. the 924 GTS is a real unicorn when it comes to classic racers I would love to see one in real time. As for the 944s on this list I see the 944T and the 944 cabrio, I also own these 2 944 models both in guards red haha.. I emailed Autoart asking if they would build the early dash 944na as they already had the interior and proper dash from the 924 series....unfortunately this will never be in production.

I also noticed you don't have a 968 in your collection? I'm sure the 1:18 scale is a hard to come by...come to think of it I don't think I have ever seen one.

Thanks for posting this....;)

the 928 models are excellent period examples......both cars are European models, you can tell by the position of the fender lights.

The early car without sun roof and rub strips and correct interior is the car that led Le Mans back in the day and voted car of the year.

The later car is the first model of the GTS with same mirrors and wheels used on many other models as well the same body colour spoiler (previous were all black). The car was fitted with the largest V8 5.4L bigger than current Cayenne and Panorama engines.

I also have a few models, mostly F1 cars and few Porsche (911 and 928s).

thanks for sharing :)

Mike,

I have never seen a 968 in either 1:18 or 1:12 scale. There are scale model companies that make many more versions of the 924/944/968 series, but they are centered around the much smaller 1:43 scale. Rest assured, if there were a 1:18 scale model of an early 944, or a 968, I would gladly add it to my collection.

As a background, I am one of the founding members, and long term moderators of diecastxchange, one of the largest web based forums related to the collection and admiration of 1:18 scale diecast models. I have had the amazing opportunity to meet with The head designers at AUTOart at the Nuremburg Toy Fair in Germany to discuss their future plans. Unfortunately they expressed no desire to delve further down the 944/968 avenue due to what they saw as lackluster sales of their 924GTS and 944 turbo models.

Our best hope for 1:18 scale versions of 944 or 968 models is in the world of resin models from companies like GTSpirit.

Well that's all of them (except for the ones that I have for sale that is)! Some of you might wonder how on earth one would display over 300 models? Well it helps having a VERY understanding wife, and an unused section of the basement!

Collecting these started out innocently, but developed into an obsession. Unfortunately my budget wasn't Jay Leno size, so the 1:1 scale cars were out of the picture. These scale models let me at least own some of my favorites, but without the need for a massive warehouse.

Thanks for looking

Nicely done! Much better than my "pile up the boxes and store them in a corner in the basement" method. I know all about the obsession. I started collecting 1:18 scaoe 917's and then moved into 956's 962's and 935's. Up to 60 now with many more to go. Who knew they had so many variants?

Peter,

Very well done sir..congrats on the diecast exchange forum I've been on the forum many times as I sourced out of a few 1:18 scales. It's now more interesting to know that you are a founder of this club/forum. You have yourself a museum of cars and a well organized man cave oh and a very patient wife haha.

Thanks again for sharing...

I was talking with Loc today he sent me these photos of his collection. Limited Edition run, this one is number #1832/2014 produced for the 40th anniversary of the 911 Turbo. I'm pretty sure the story goes they were only delivered to the Porsche dealerships with some other exceptions.

This was also a dealer delivery limited edition, it's number 1191/2000 produced

Loc,

Sorry for the delayed response. There are some high quality models that would be close to your car, but I don't know of any with the rear spoiler. Here is an AUTOart diecast from a German Retailer that i have used on the past:

http://www.ebay.ca/itm/PORSCHE-911-Carrera-3-2-Coupe-1988-G-Modell-white-weiss-1-18-78012-AUTOart-AA-/201509602296?hash=item2eeae883f8:g:nPEAAOSw7NNT6IEY

And here is a high quality Resin (without opening parts) that is a 911 Club Sport with the rear spoiler like yours:

http://www.ebay.ca/itm/GT-Spirit-1-18-Porsche-911-Carrera-Club-Sport-930-CS-3-2-white-SHIPPING-FREE-/262252214685?hash=item3d0f73399d:g:glIAAOSwyQtVhZ7L

Either are very high quality, and definitely worth the price.

Hope this helps.

Loc,

I've contacted GTSpirit in regards of your white Carerra with white Fuchs wheels and the turbo spoiler.... They show a 1988 guards red with the turbo spoiler, they also have the white Club sport as Peter has mentioned above.

The response I received from GTSpirit is they will consider making this 3.2 Carerra in white with white Fuchs wheels and turbo spoiler that would replicate your 911. They said to keep watching the site as it "might" just make an appearance, also said to sign up for their news letter as it would inform you if it was available or not. No time line was givin but they sounded very positive about production.

I will keep an eye out for you.

If you do end up getting the white club sport just remove the red club sport script with nail polish remover and paint the wheels white and voilà....
