kkersch
I recently parted with my summer convertible of 33 years and I am in search of a new summer toy. I started looking at a few different car one of which is the 911 cabriolet. I prefer a standard but as far as the rest of the options I am entering uncharted territories. The cars that seem to fit into my budget at the moment are from 1999 to around 2004 with mileage ranging from 100,000 kms to 150,000kms. Any suggestions as to options to look for, problems and symptoms, or expensive up coming repairs would be appreciated. I have come across the 2 engine choices of 3.4 and 3.6. Our tech session at Alpine Autowerks brought to light the scoring cylinder issues on these engines. I can't remember if one engine was more prone to this or at what mileage this would start to show up. I do remember the costs though. Open to meet with anyone willing to tudor me into the realm of 911's. Lee Kersch Quote Link to comment
mrdunlop944
Might want to email Marc at Alpine and set up a meeting with him. His tech session was very informative, he's seen it all. 996 1999-04 with the factory aero kit. The headlight had changes in 2002 where it took on the turbo look a much cleaner design. There is also the 996 40th anniversary edition to look for. Happy hunting and be patient!! Inspections from Porsche or Alpine will find cylinder scoring or any major leaks or repairs coming up. Perhaps take it to Loc at Cosmoes to find out if any body damage or repairs have been done. Hope this was some what helpful haha Edited January 14, 2017 by mrdunlop944 Quote 84 944 SOLD 85 944/1 85.5 944 Parts car Sold 86 944 SOLD 86 944 Turbo SOLD 88 944S parts car sold 88 924S Sold 88 944 Turbo S SOLD 89 944 Turbo 90 944S2 coupe Sold 90 944S2 coupe Parts car Sold 90 944S2 Cabrio SOLD Link to comment
kkersch
Thanks. I was also thinking of Marc's tech session and that he might be a crucial stop. Quote Link to comment
Rob996
I spent a few months last spring searching the market for a 1999 to 2004 996 and found a nice one on fathers day weekend in Calgary. 2001 996 cab. I would love to chat about some of the good and not so good cars that I test drove. Quote Rob Campbell 2001 996, Cabriolet - Rainforest Green Metallic 1986 928S, India Red - SOLD Link to comment
