scocoa911
http://driving.ca/porsche/auto-news/news/porsche-classic-brings-storied-brands-heritage-back-to-life "The other major area of work for Porsche Classic is supplying parts for the more than 650,000 Porsche sports cars currently cruising the planet. (Not surprising, the word “Cayenne” never comes up.) Most parts come from former series suppliers or new partners. A few years ago, Porsche Classic bought all the tooling from a former supplier that made body panels for earlier 911s, and relocated the machinery to another facility. Sourcing rare parts is a daunting task, and it can get pricey. Salm expands on this. “Say we find someone with the last three old switches in existence. He might say, ‘Good. I could use a new house.’” What can’t be found can usually be fabricated, but that can get complicated too. “What was originally an ivory part cannot be reproduced unless we can find some legal 50-year-old ivory. And some customers will demand this.” Ah, the burdens of the wealthy Porsche nut." Quote Sheila Allan and Mark Oliver 2012 911 C4S Link to comment
