Torque tube and torque converter upgrades

Porsche models with front engine transaxles that were created in the '80s or '90s have transaxle bearings that are reaching end of life (not bad for approx. 30 years) and as such Im replacing the brgs on my '88 928 S4 as a winter project.

The parts Im using include new Constantine brgs (far superior than the 30 YO OEM) a new drive shaft and new torque converter bearings. While the parts themselves dont amount to that much in the big scheme the project to remove the components, remove old and replace then re-install is significant as the entire transaxle needs to be removed.

I'll update this thread as progress is made with the project as well answer any questions for like minded enthuisiasts who may contemplate a similar project.

Hello Malcolm,

You did the TT on your GTS last year I believe. Did you use the Super bearing upgrade on that build? I hear it’s a real PITA to do this job like you mention as everything must come apart.

How was doing this job? How has it held up?

hi Mike, yes I used the Black Sea Engineering superbearings, 928 design of course :)

The project was a tremendous amount of work but I did it solo albeit the car was on the lift in my garage.

Results are super smooth and quiet operation although I did use a new shaft and complete new clutch.
