    Oil testing in Alberta

    Hi
while at the Riegal event today Al, Brodie and I were talking about IMS failure, and early warning signs.
Other than checking the filter every change I also get Oil analysis done so I can track any changes in metal in the oil.

The company I use is Fluid Life out of Edmonton. I bought a 10 pack that comes with all the containers and labeling to ship to them. I get a detailed report emailed to me so I can track changes.

Brodie suggested I post this here as itís better than shipping to the US.

Thanks for the heads up. I used Blackstone Laboratories in Indiana. Edmonton is way closer and Canadian $'s!

I use Metro Tech Systems. http://www.metrotechsystems.ca/. They are by Deerfoot Mall NE.

They are 1 minute from my office so can't get more convenient.

Lots of options it seems - what's the cost of these testing services? I assume you are trying to establish a baseline and look for changes so if your engine is in the throes of self destruction when you start, you are SOL.

I should get my M3's oil tested to get a sense of the condition of the rod bearings. Then again, do I actually want to know?

For Fluid Life a 10 Pack of Basic testing (series 1) is $240.00 CDN

About $20-25. I bought a dozen bottles (pre-paid) that I'm still going through. They are a little old school in terms of how they operate - like a mom and pop shop - but you can't beat the location and convenience.

Yes, you need a baseline and then you are looking for changes. Unless the engine is in such bad shape that the used oil content is that far off normal.
