malcolm
I like to super clean parts that are reused on projects mostly using hand cleaning 'varsol' and brake cleaner (by the case) applications. Appreciate recommendations from folks who do their own work as to steam cleaning bigger parts and use of ultra sonic cleaners for smaller parts, local providers and experiences, thanks......Malcolm Quote '21 Macan GTS PDK Miami Blue/Black, 7k kms '93 928 GTS 5 speed Polar Silver/Linen, 192k kms '88 928 S4 A/T Black/Ivory, 190k kms '09 Cayenne GTS Tiptronic Nordic Gold/Black, +336k kms '88 928 S4 A/T Red/Champagne, 110k miles (US car) Link to comment
dragon
Hey Malcolm, I don't know of any local places. I have a small ultrasonic cleaner I use for jewellery, metal watch bands, etc. I have 2 steam cleaners I've used on some car stuff: removing ppf, grimey fingerprints on headliner, light grime on suspension parts, etc 1 is a small commercial unit that isn't sold anymore & the other one I got off amazon. malcolm
What exactly are you trying to clean? the smaller parts would be nuts, bolts, springs, smaller metal components etc from car or mcycle projects i may be rebuilding. for the steam cleaner i was looking at larger parts that require degrease like oil filter housings, swing arms, frames etc. thinking that these non toxic cleaners are more usable in family garage and some maintenance of marital bliss during these strange times of pandemic. malcolm
Follow up: I did buy a Ultra Sonic cleaner per Yoon recommendation......great at getting into every nook and cranny of smaller parts, I add some ZEP to the water base for more aggressive cleaning, simple green on lighter stuff (shot glass of cleaner per fill level of water). Creates a little noise/smell when in operation but results are fantastic. For steam cleaning I went with the McCulloch machine with full attachments......need special permission for basement washroom tub use as man it blast stuff and obvious attention to hand position on parts being cleaned. Just reading up on dry ice cleaners; any experience? CarreraGT
My friend opened a shop last year that does dry ice cleaning. He has a huge collection of vintage Porsches. He's at Euro Cars and Coffee often with different cars. The last time he brought the Ferrari P4 replica. You can get him to do the parts for you at his place. Based on a demonstration that I was given by a shop in Edmonton it's very effective. Quote '05 CGT/'14 Turbo/'18 GT2RS Link to comment
