Hello all!

Here for my inaugural post on your new boards I have a customer's 2009 Vantage in Onyx Black. He left it with the directions of "Fix the last guys mistakes and do everything". Alrighty then, that we can do. He was treated to the complete Zymol package and topped with Zymol's Ebony wax. The Platinum Package.

Upon my initial inspection outside it was clear the last polish job butchered the finish. Caked on polish in all the joints, hood grill lattice full of polish and most noticeably, buffer trails and holograms present over it's entire body.

What was done:

- Engine presoaked/washed and rinsed

- Wheels presoaked/washed and rinsed

- Door jams and kick panels washed

- Exterior presoaked/washed and rinsed

- Clay bar entire vehicle

- Re washed and rinsed

- Exhaust scrub

- Towel dried

Then taken outside for damage assement and pre-service photos

Next:

- Masked

- Custom ordered touch up paint from the dealership, picked up and filled rock chips

- Tar and sap removed

- Zymol HD Cleanse

- Menzerna Power Finish High gloss polish

- Poorboys Black Hole finishing glaze

- Wolfgang Worldclass Paint Sealant Protection

- Zymol Ebony wax

- Zymol Wheel cleaner presoak

- Various brushes

- Rinsed and dried

- Zymol Detail wax for wheels

- Tires cleaned and protected

- Exhaust polished

- All exterior chome and metal polished

- Windows cleaned and polished

- All jams wiped and sealed

- Floormat removal and shampoo

- Complete interior shampoo and detail

- Interior accents polished and sealed as necessary

Brought outside for final checks and wipes. All creases and joints cleaned with qtips and toothpicks.

Then photos and delivery :)

Enjoy!

Now we bring it back in and start the correction process. The first step is to clean the paint and for that today we used Zymol’s HD Cleanse. It removes impurities in the clear coat and prepares the surface for further polishing.

Here is an example using a bug stain on the front fascia. This has already been washed twice and clay barred and as you can see has left quite an eye sore.

Bug Stain

HD Cleanse

After Cleanse

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y169/straight6turbo/Detailing/How%20to%20and%20step%20by%20step/AstonMartin_036.jpg

You can already see the dramatic difference in the paint colour just with this one step. This is due to the low quality polish used previously, leaving a fine white haze over the dark rich black colour.

After the entire vehicle is cleansed by hand we can move on to filling the paint chips. For this we had to get Aston Martin to custom mix one for us! Took just over a day and it was a perfect match. To properly and accurately apply the paint we went to EastSide Hobbies and picked up some model car paint brushes. Sorry, no pictures of filling the actual chips.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y169/straight6turbo/Detailing/How%20to%20and%20step%20by%20step/AstonMartin_082.jpg

After all the chips and imperfections were filled we moved on to the polish. First we masked the few areas that required it.

After the whole car was polished we moved on to the Poorboys Black hole glaze. This was applied by hand as well to the entire car. This will give the car that slick wet, deep black colour most enthusiasts crave. Sorry no pictures of the application.

Next up is to seal the paint and protect it for the future. For that we use Wolfgang’s World Class Paint Sealant 3.0

It has unrivalled durability as well as shine, a must have for the results we require. Sorry no pictures of the application.

While the sealant is curing we deep clean the wheels and tires as well as complete the interior service along with the windows.

For the wheels we used Zymol’s Wheel Cleaner and detail brush

Now we remove the paint sealant

After the sealant is removed we can layer on any true carnauba wax, and for this step we chose Zymol’s Ebony wax for black coloured vehicles. This must be applied by hand, with no pads, the warmth of your body warms and melts the carnauba before you can apply it. So you get to feel like a kid again let loose with finger paint!

After we've wiped down everything and dressed the tires we clean out and dust all the jams around the car. Remove any excess polish or wax residue and take it outside for the final photoshoot and to verify we are holograms free!

Just a recap of what we had before and what we have after. Also take notice of the slightly grayish appearance beforehand.

Wow, nice job on that car.

I had to go through your pictures twice to take it all in. When you read detailing tutorials and talk to professionals such as your self Renee, you never really get a full grasp of what is involved in doing a full detail and paint correction. I always hesitated when it came to even the thought of removing swirls, holograms, ect myself. After seeing what is actually involved hiring a true professional seems like the best and SAFEST option.

Thanks Brodie! It's always intimidating to use chemicals and powerful machines on your beloved cars, and that's exactly why I use the techniques shown here, acid free cleaners, and fool proof tools that are guaranteed to not harm your paint and provide outstanding results.

Can't wait to see what you can do to my 1966 912.

Will it go faster, after the treatment?

Haha don't we wish! This aston was being prepped for ZR's "Race the Base" event, if it doesn't help it go faster at least it'll look good doing it :p

I can't wait to work on your car!
